BHIKHIWIND (TARN TARAN): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday led a large dharna at the main Chowk in Bhikhiwind, protesting the alleged tearing of nomination papers of SAD candidates by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers during the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections. The party accused AAP of attempting to undermine the democratic process through intimidation and obstruction.
Addressing the gathering, Sukhbir Badal said he stood firmly with SAD workers and would personally lead all future protests to ensure free and fair elections. “We will not allow this corrupt and failed government to crush democracy under any circumstances,” he asserted.
Badal also contacted the State Election Commission, informing officials that the party possessed video evidence showing AAP supporters, allegedly backed by local police, destroying the nomination papers of Akali candidates. He demanded immediate action to restore democratic rights.
Following these interventions, Tarn Taran SSP visited the protest site and assured the SAD leadership that all their candidates would be allowed to file their papers without interference. After receiving the assurance, the dharna was peacefully lifted.
