NEW DELHI: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a hospital in Sydney after sustaining a blunt abdominal injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday that Iyer is stable and will remain in Sydney to continue his recovery.
The injury occurred when Iyer took an awkward fall while attempting a catch during Australia’s innings, resulting in a laceration to his spleen accompanied by internal bleeding. Medical personnel promptly diagnosed the injury, and the bleeding was successfully controlled following a minor medical procedure.
In an official statement, the BCCI said, “Shreyas Iyer is stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are satisfied with his progress, and he has been discharged from the hospital today.”
Iyer will continue to be monitored closely by the BCCI’s medical team during his stay in Sydney. His return to competitive cricket will be determined based on further medical assessments and his recovery timeline.
