Quetta, (IANS) — The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has accused the Pakistani authorities of weaponising the law to silence dissent and undermining the judiciary’s independence, calling it a “rubber stamp” for state actions.
In a statement released after a jail trial on Saturday, the rights group alleged that Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) once again failed to submit the complete challans in the ongoing case against the BYC leadership. The organisation said the authorities are deliberately prolonging the proceedings through “delaying tactics” aimed at weakening the movement’s leadership.
The BYC claimed that the CTD has repeatedly avoided filing complete case documents, while the courts have supported these irregularities instead of ensuring due process. “Despite the absence of a full challan, the court appears eager to frame the case based on incomplete evidence,” the statement read.
It further added that the CTD has filed fabricated FIRs against BYC leaders, ignoring earlier judicial instructions to present all cases collectively. The group said this pattern of legal manipulation reflects a systematic attempt to criminalise peaceful activism and suppress voices advocating for justice in Balochistan.
