NEW DELHI: A day after a charged Lok Sabha debate on election reforms, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah appeared “very nervous” during his speech, claiming that the minister “used inappropriate language” and that “his hands were trembling”.
The remarks come in the backdrop of Wednesday’s heated discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, during which Rahul Gandhi openly challenged Amit Shah to a public debate. The Home Minister retorted sharply, asserting, “I will decide the order of my speech,” while countering the opposition’s allegations of “vote theft”.
Tensions further escalated when Shah rebutted Rahul Gandhi’s claim about “multiple voters registered at a single Haryana address”, prompting the Congress leader to rise and interrupt the minister’s speech in the House.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi said, “Amit Shah was very nervous yesterday. He used the wrong language, and his hands were trembling.” His comments are expected to intensify the ongoing political confrontation over electoral reforms and voter verification processes.
