Harmanpreet Kaur: “This Is Not the End, It’s the Start of a New Chapter” After India’s Historic World Cup Win

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed deep emotion and gratitude after leading her team to a historic maiden ICC Women’s World Cup triumph at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Kaur credited every member of the Indian contingent for their unwavering belief and hard work throughout a challenging campaign.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Kaur said the players stayed positive even after suffering three consecutive losses in the group stage. India bounced back by defeating New Zealand in a must-win match, stunned defending champions Australia in the semifinals, and then outplayed South Africa in the final to lift their first-ever world title. “Even after those three losses, we always believed in ourselves,” Kaur said. “Every single player gave everything. This team truly deserves it.”

The skipper praised opener Shafali Verma for her fearless all-round performance, highlighting how her crucial wickets of Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp turned the game in India’s favor. Kaur also lauded her bowlers and fielders for holding their nerve when South Africa faltered in the chase.

Calling the triumph “just the beginning,” Kaur said the team aims to build on this success. “We’ve broken the barrier,” she affirmed. “This is not the end—it’s the start of a new chapter for Indian women’s cricket.”
