CHANDIGARH, Nov 12 (IANS) — In a significant organisational overhaul, the Congress party has appointed 27 new district presidents in Punjab as part of its strategy to strengthen the party’s grassroots network ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The move is also seen as preparation for possible early polls in the border state.
The list of newly appointed District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents was released by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal. He said the appointments were finalised after detailed consultations with senior party leaders, state functionaries, and other stakeholders.
Venugopal added that the reshuffle is part of the party’s Sanghathan Sirjan Abhiyan — an internal initiative aimed at revamping the organisational structure and energising local leadership across Punjab.
Party insiders said the new team has been tasked with mobilising cadre strength, enhancing booth-level coordination, and preparing the Congress machinery for the 2027 elections, where the party hopes to reclaim power from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
