MAJITHA (AMRITSAR): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday said the AAP government’s decision to send Patiala SSP Varun Sharma on leave proves that the viral conference call—allegedly featuring the SSP instructing police officers to stop opposition candidates from filing nominations for Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections—was indeed authentic.
Speaking at a large public gathering in Kathunangal, accompanied by party MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia, Badal urged voters to give the SAD decisive victories in the upcoming local body polls. He asserted that a transparent and independent probe would clearly establish that SSP Sharma had “misused his authority and violated constitutional norms.”
Badal said the Akali Dal would continue to pursue legal action to ensure a criminal case is registered against the SSP. “He must face the law and be held accountable for his unconstitutional actions,” the SAD chief added.
