Punjab Police Bust Pakistan-Linked Arms Smuggling Network in Amritsar; Six Held Including Juvenile

Amritsar: In a major breakthrough in the state government’s ongoing crackdown on organised crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a Pakistan-backed cross-border arms smuggling module, arresting six individuals including a 16-year-old juvenile. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Monday that the arrests mark a significant blow to networks attempting to destabilise Punjab.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurbir Singh alias Sonu (28), Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa (32), Gorka Singh alias Gora, Rajwinder Singh alias Raju—all from Tarn Taran’s Khem Karan area—along with Jaspal Singh alias Jass (24) from Amritsar’s Bachiwind, and a juvenile from Sultanpur Lodhi. Police recovered six sophisticated weapons from the group, including five .30-bore pistols and one 9mm PX5 pistol.

According to the DGP, preliminary investigations indicate that the group was in direct communication with a Pakistan-based handler through social media. The handler allegedly provided GPS coordinates for retrieving weapon consignments, which were later supplied to criminals in Punjab’s Majha and Doaba regions for unlawful activities.

DGP Yadav added that further investigation is underway to uncover the module’s complete supply chain, including backward and forward linkages, receivers of the arms consignments, and associated financial channels.
