CHANDIGARH: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab delegation, led by Dr. Jagmohan Singh Raju (Retd. IAS), General Secretary of BJP Punjab, met the State Election Commissioner on Wednesday and submitted a letter from BJP Punjab Working President Ashwani Sharma. The letter demanded strict directions to ensure neutrality of the state machinery and compulsory videography of the entire election process for the upcoming Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls.
The delegation included State Vice President Dr. Subhash Sharma, Jasmine Sandhewalia, State Secretary Sanjeev Khanna, Bhanu Pratap, State Co-Cashier Sukwinder Singh Goldy, Legal Cell Convenor N.K. Verma, State Media Head Vineet Joshi, and senior leaders Bibi Param Pal Kaur and former DGP Paramdeep Singh Gill.
In the memorandum, Sharma raised concerns that several Returning Officers and police officials were allegedly working under the influence of the ruling AAP government, obstructing opposition candidates during the nomination process. He stressed that all candidates must be allowed to file nominations freely and that strict neutrality of officials must be upheld.
Highlighting past incidents where officials allegedly acted at the behest of the ruling party, the letter also cited a recent case where BJP leader Gurpreet Singh was allegedly threatened with arrest if BJP candidates attempted to file nominations.
The delegation urged the Election Commission to mandate complete videography—from nomination filing to result declaration—to enhance transparency, deter misuse of authority, and provide verifiable evidence in case of disputes.
