NEW DELHI: Six Sainik Schools across the country, including Sainik School Sujanpur Tira in Himachal Pradesh and Sainik School Amaravathinagar in Tamil Nadu, are yet to sign the mandatory Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with their respective state governments, the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.
Sainik Schools function through a partnership model between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and state governments. The MoA — also referred to as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) — outlines responsibilities related to land allocation, infrastructure development, financial support and pension liabilities, ensuring smooth establishment and operation of the institutions.
According to Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, the other schools awaiting MoA finalisation include Sainik School Nagrota in Jammu & Kashmir, Sainik School Kunjpura in Haryana, Sainik School Imphal in Manipur and Sainik School Bhubaneswar in Odisha.
Officials said completing these agreements is essential for streamlining administrative coordination and securing long-term resources, which are critical for maintaining the schools’ academic standards and military-oriented training framework.
