Thiruvananthapuram: In an unprecedented development for any Communist leader’s family in India, nearly every member of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s household—except his wife, Kamala Vijayan—has come under the scrutiny of Central investigative agencies. The Chief Minister’s official residence, Cliff House, has routinely received summons and notices, marking an unusual chapter in state politics.
Both of Vijayan’s children, daughter Veena and son Vivek, have faced questioning or summons from agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), among others. Despite the CPI(M)’s repeated claims that these actions are politically motivated, the investigations continue to tighten around the family.
The scrutiny, which began years ago with the SNC-Lavalin case—still pending before the Supreme Court—has now expanded into several high-profile inquiries. These include the diplomatic gold smuggling case, the Life Mission investigation, the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) payment controversy, and most recently, an ED notice issued to the Chief Minister in connection with the Masala Bond probe.
The series of summons marks one of the most intense investigative phases faced by any ruling political family in Kerala’s history.
