Jharkhand civic polls likely by March as SEC submits timeline to High Court

Ranchi: The much-delayed civic elections in Jharkhand are expected to be completed by March next year, with the state government informing the High Court that all necessary preparations are now in place. The elections will cover all 48 municipal corporations and municipal bodies across the state.

During Monday’s hearing, the State Election Commission (SEC) presented a sealed timeline to the court, outlining the proposed schedule for conducting the polls. This submission marks a significant step forward in resolving the long-pending issue.

The government told the court that it has fulfilled all pending formalities and handed over essential documents to the SEC. These include updated population data and details regarding OBC reservation, which were required for finalising the election process.

With both the SEC and the state government indicating readiness, the High Court is now expected to take a final call on clearing the way for the municipal elections after months of delay.
