AMRITSAR: The third day of the 10th Amritsar Literature and Book Fair at Khalsa College opened with a seminar organised by the Punjab Language Department on the theme “Language and Literature in the Modern Era: Challenges and Opportunities.” College Principal Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa and Punjabi Department Head Dr. Parminder Singh welcomed distinguished guests with floral bouquets and mementos.
Conducting the session, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Dhillon explained that the seminar aimed to address the challenges faced by Punjabi language and literature in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. Among the participants were Language Department Director Jaswant Singh Jafar and eminent scholars including Amarjit Singh Grewal, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Dr. Manmohan, and Dr. Yograj Angrish, who shared their insights on preserving linguistic heritage in the digital age.
In the academic session, experts highlighted the increasing influence of technology, artificial intelligence, and globalisation on language use and literary expression. Speakers noted the need for Punjabi to adapt to technological advancements while emphasising the importance of strengthening employment opportunities, criticism, computerisation, and cultural confidence among Punjabi speakers.
Later in the afternoon, the ‘Savi Sang Samvad’ programme featured a face-to-face conversation with Swaranjit Singh Swa, President of the Punjab Kala Parishad. Dr. Yograj Angrish discussed his literary journey, while Swa spoke about portraying social issues such as drug abuse, inequality, and deprivation through his poetry, reinforcing the role of literature as a mirror of society.
