The British High Commission, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Work at Panjab University, organised a photo exhibition on Monday under the ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ awareness campaign at the Students’ Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The initiative aims to educate students and young people about the growing risks associated with visa scams.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Aman Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh; Phil Brown, First Secretary, Justice and Home Affairs, British High Commission, New Delhi; Professor Madhurima, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; and Professor Monica Munjial Singh, Chairperson of the Centre for Social Work.
Showcasing real-life dangers linked to irregular migration, the exhibition provides essential guidance to help visitors recognise and avoid common visa fraud schemes. As part of the campaign, a WhatsApp-based chatbot has also been launched to offer official UK advice in both English and Punjabi, helping users identify scam tactics and learn about safe and legal pathways to travel to the UK.
To further engage students, the event featured a bhangra performance and a street play, both designed to raise awareness and encourage informed decision-making regarding international travel.
