PATNA: Bihar, one of India’s most politically significant states, has delivered an unambiguous verdict in the 2025 Assembly elections — decisively backing the Nitish Kumar–led NDA and dismissing predictions of a hung assembly despite two decades of anti-incumbency. According to trends till noon, this election is shaping up to be the most sweeping mandate secured by the NDA under Nitish Kumar.
The results also mark one of the most severe setbacks for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)–Congress alliance, which has been unable to counter the rising influence of the BJP–JD(U) combine. Both BJP and JD(U) are registering exceptional strike rates of 80–90 per cent, reflecting unprecedented voter support in their favour.
This dominance, however, did not emerge overnight. The BJP–JD(U) ascent represents a long-term pattern of growth, organisational expansion, and consolidation in Bihar — a journey rooted in political shifts that began in the decades following Independence.
As the Congress faces one of its steepest declines in Bihar since 1952, the 2025 results underline a fundamental transformation in the state’s political landscape, with the NDA emerging stronger than ever.
