NEW DELHI, Nov 13 (IANS) — The Congress suffered a major setback in the Bihar Assembly elections, managing to lead in only four constituencies despite an aggressive statewide campaign anchored by Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Chori’ narrative. Gandhi had travelled extensively across Bihar, aiming to influence as many as 116 Assembly seats.
However, when results began to emerge, the Congress appeared to have made an impact in barely 2 per cent of its target seats. The party’s messaging, centered around allegations of “vote theft,” was positioned as a central pillar of the INDIA bloc’s campaign, known locally as the Mahagathbandhan. Yet, the appeal clearly did not resonate with voters.
Emerging trends pointed to a sweeping victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), leaving the Congress with little to show for its high-voltage campaigning. Of the 61 seats it contested, the party secured leads in only four, raising concerns over its electoral strategy and its role within the opposition alliance.
For the Congress, the results reflect both a significant underperformance and its limited contribution to the overall INDIA bloc tally, underscoring the need for introspection ahead of future elections.
