Kolkata: A Bangladeshi national was arrested on Thursday while attempting to illegally enter the Bengdubi Army Base near Bagdogra in Darjeeling district, posing as a local labourer.
The individual, identified as Nanda Mondal, was intercepted by Army personnel stationed at the base after his suspicious movements drew their attention. Following preliminary questioning, Mondal was detained and later handed over to the Bagdogra Police for further investigation.
According to police sources, construction work is currently underway inside the Army base, and several local labourers were allowed entry under a contractor’s supervision. Mondal allegedly tried to blend in with the group and gain access to the restricted zone.
Officials are probing how the Bangladeshi national reached the area and whether there were any accomplices involved. Security agencies are also verifying his background and purpose for attempting to enter the high-security installation.
