Over 3,000 Awami League Workers Arrested in Dhaka Ahead of National Elections

DHAKA: More than 3,000 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations have been arrested across Dhaka over the past ten months, according to local media reports on Saturday. The arrests were made in connection with flash processions carried out in different parts of the capital.

Confirming the development, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman said at a press conference that the law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring political activities as the national election approaches.

Rahman assured the public that there is no cause for concern, emphasizing that the police are fully prepared to handle the evolving political situation.

“Political activities will naturally intensify before the election, but we are alert and capable of preventing any subversive acts,” he was quoted as saying by Bangladesh’s leading Bengali daily, Prothom Alo.
